Pre-Build Adventures

Since arriving on Thursday, March 21, the Bricks to Bread volunteers have been able to enjoy Costa Rica! We’ve been in Escazú, Zarcero, Ciudad Quesada, and much more!

Yesterday, March 23rd was definitely a highlight. We visited Cristina and Laura’s Panaderia del Bosque in San Marcos de Cutris. They greeted us with fresh agua de pipa (coconut water), hugs and many smiles. We had an amazing lunch cooked on the wood burning stove. They later took us on a walk to a nearby pineapple plantation where we ate fresh fruit off the plant. We cut sugar cane to produce our own juice and even baked empanadas in the oven – coconut, pineapple, cheese, and dulce de leche.

Today, March 24th we arrived at Playa Cocles, in the southeastern tip of Costa Rica, as we prepare to head into Bribri tomorrow morning to start our week-long build. This region is known for it’s naturally preserved beaches, robust green forests, and the laid-back lifestyle of the Caribbean. We enjoyed a relaxing evening as a group celebrating our daily highlights, laughter, and good food.
